Last week started out as not looking as full — until I found out that my proposal was scheduled for my dissertation this past Tuesday. The way my doctorate works is that I defend Chapters One through Three in order to get approval to start my own research. I then conduct and analyze my research to write Chapters Four and Five. Then I defend my entire dissertation (Chapters One through Five) to get my doctorate. So last week, I read through 104 pages that I’ve written for Chapters One, Two, and Three to proofread and distill into a 15 minute PowerPoint presentation. Whew. Thankfully, the presentation went great on Tuesday, and I just have a couple more things to think through before moving onto my research stage.
In the meantime, here are five things that I loved this week:
Last week at the playground, Grant learned how to climb the steps up to the slide, lay on his tummy, and scoot backwards to go down the slide. I didn’t teach him any of this so I’m not sure where he learned it from. He loves it and is so proud of himself at the end of the slide, immediately wanting to do it again. So precious!
2. Breathe Easy essential oil
I’ve officially become an essential oil person. Atlanta’s winter weather is so strange, and the temperature will oscillate between sunny in the 60s and cold and rainy. With all that change, my allergies have been wacky. In the morning, I’ve been diffusing my breathe easy oil while I drink my coffee and do my quiet time before Grant wakes up. Not only is the aroma such a nice way to start the day, but it has really helped my allergies too.
3. Feast cookbook
John and I wanted to eat more vegetarian meals this week, so I pulled out my Feast cookbook. My sister-in-law gave it to me for my birthday a couple years ago and it’s our go-to for delicious vegetarian dishes.
4. Winter Shape Up
I’ve been a follower of Fitnessista’s blog for years, and I love the twice a year shape ups that she does. The Winter Shape Up is going on now and includes weekly workouts with videos and weekly meal plans. Here’s the site if you want to check it out.
5. Grant learning new words/mimicking us
Ever since Grant began school, his vocabulary is exploding – in toddler terms 😉 He now wants to mimic everything we say and his favorite word now is “up!” (i.e. he wants us to pick him up). He also uses sign language for “more” when he wants more food and “all done” when he’s finished eating. He loves “tuck” (i.e. trucks) and going for “awak” (i.e. a walk). He still says “vroom vroom” and “woof woof” all the time too. He has also learned to stomp, high five, and fist pump. He steals our heart every day!
