Wow, a lot can happen in a month! Grant developed and learned so much right before he turned nine months. It’s keeping us on our toes but is a lot fun!
Right after Grant turned eight months, we visited my parents on the boat in Hilton Head. At that point, he was still only rolling to get to toys… three weeks later and he’s crawling all over, pulling up, and taking steps while holding onto furniture.
Here are some Hilton Head pictures:
Here are the highlights from this month:
He started army crawling/inch worming on August 19th. That same day he also learned how to sit up from a lying down position. Then the next day he got his first tooth — his top left one! Now his second tooth (bottom left) is in and others seem to be on the way. I was wondering why all week he wasn’t napping well, and now I know all that was going on developmentally for him! Then less than a week later on August 25th, I found him standing up in his crib. Now all he wants to do is pull up on anything he can reach. He’s also now fully crawling — and can get going quite fast!
When he’s not standing or trying to walk, he loves touch and feel books like Curious George at the Zoo. He is very interested in textures, i.e. if I’m wearing him in the Ergo when shopping, he wants to feel all of the clothes as we walk by. He also loves rhythms like toy shakers that we’ll sometimes dance with in the mornings while listening to kid worship songs.
This month he also started a Parents Day Out program from 9am-1pm once a week. Drop off was hard the first two times, but now he loves his teacher! During this time, I head to the coffeeshop around the corner to crank out as much dissertation work as I can.
I think because Grant has been learning and growing so much, naps have been a bit of a struggle. We pushed his nap times back by 15-30 minutes (around 9:15am and 1:20pm) and that seems to have helped, fingers crossed! He also is waking up in the morning earlier than I would like. Sometimes it’s teething related and he needs a snuggle– though thankfully teething doesn’t seem to affect him too much so far other than wanting to bite everything. Other times, he wakes up at 5:45am and chatters and plays for 30 minutes before wanting his bottle.
He still loves all food and now primarily feeds himself bites of everything like sweet potatoes, chicken, salmon (he loves all fish he’s tried so far!), black beans, olives, green peas, etc. and spinach and fruit smoothies are a hit too.
It’s been a lot of fun chasing him around the house as he crawls away and squeals, getting kisses from him where he licks me like an ice cream cone, and watching him light up when he sees his Daddy coming home from work. We feel like ever since he became mobile he’s reached new levels of happiness and is such a joyful baby!
