All my traveling in April leaves me behind on my blog, so this post’s chatter is all about playing catch-up.
After returning from the Bahamas, I jumped right into schoolwork. This quarter I am taking two new classes: Contemporary Models of Leadership (I’ve lost track of how many leadership classes I’ve taken from my undergrad major, grad school, and now my doctorate!) and my first Research course. Though the research class will have a major paper due at the end, I am excited to begin digging into my topic for my dissertation… though it is a bit intimidating trying to narrow my topic down and pick the exact angle that I want to research. As an update, I am interested in exploring how emerging adults (those ages 18-29) discover their career calling.
Aside from school and work, here’s what I’ve been up to lately: (And as usual, you can click the photos to view them larger.)
A few weekends ago, John and I took Thursday and Friday off to head to Orlando to hear his sister, the talented Rhetta Jane, perform. It was the first time that we’d seen her live (aside from Thanksgiving concerts), and she rocked it! We had a great time jamming to her music, especially her single Saturday Dreamin’ — shameless plug, but go download it now; I promise you’ll love it!
Two weekends ago, the group who went to Nashville for the Half Marathon two years ago returned for another girls’ weekend. Only two of us signed up to race (me not included this time after I got a cab back mid-race last time!), but I think the race is cursed for us because it was supposed to thunderstorm again. Due to the weather, the girls who had signed up to run backed out and we all slept in, and then of course it turned into a beautiful day instead!
We stayed at my in-law’s house in Nashville and started the day off by my mother-in-“love” making everyone her delicious French toast! We then got dressed and headed to Hillsboro Village to shop and eat at a favorite of mine, Fido’s.
After a day of shopping, we went to Tin Angel for dinner before heading back to the house to celebrate Emma’s (aka Rhetta Jane’s) 18th birthday! We had amazing cupcakes, and RJ performed some of her new songs for us. Then to keep the celebration going, we headed downtown to the Wildhorse, which is where I’d go line dancing with my friends in college. We had a blast learning line dances, listening to music, and people watching. Then Sunday before heading back to Atlanta, we went to Frothy Monkey for a great breakfast and wrap up to our trip.
