It was a fun, busy, productive, and wonderful weekend at the Shackelford house! My parents came into town last Thursday, and we had a great weekend of walking in the park, going to a festival, eating delicious meals at home, going out for an amazing dinner, and redecorating and reorganizing.
On Saturday, we met up with our friend Becca to walk around the local Inman Park festival. It was a beautiful day out (though a tad hot, but I’m not complaining after the winter we had!) and there were lots of crafty items sold at various booths. However, perhaps the highlight was the parade – a mashup of girls in old bridesmaids dresses for the Bridesmaid Brigade, dozens of superhero outfits made out of cardboard boxes, a band that pretended to pass out from the heat with hundreds of musicians lying down on the parade path, and more… quite sights to take in!
That night for dinner, the four of us went to the Optimist for dinner which was a delicious treat! The charred spanish octopus with ramp salsa verde, spiced yogurt, and pine nuts appetizer was probably my favorite dish of the night.
In between seeing friends, slack lining in the park, and eating great meals, we also decorated my nook space at the top of our upstairs. At the beginning of the year, I’d moved my mom’s antique writing desk that she passed onto me to the nook along with a bookcase. However, I’ve been wanting to make it a cozy spot for reading and writing: two of my favorite things.
By the end of the weekend, here’s how my parents helped me turn it into a space I can’t wait to use:
We also moved some decorations around downstairs, hung new pictures in the bedroom, and reorganized my bookcase and mantel in the office/den. (Here’s pictures from when we first moved in two years ago.) Mom and Dad also helped with not as glamorous things, such as spraying our decks down with Clorox, re-grouting our master shower, and fixing our dryer. Needless to say, we’re so grateful for the help!
Now back to the swing of things and getting some work done today!
